Allowing specific iOS Apps to use the Camera

Jamf Pro 11.24 adds support for the allowedCameraRestrictionBundleIDs key so it is possible to allow some iOS apps to use the camera even when camera usage is restricted.

Updated over a month ago

Description

When creating a configuration profile, you can disable the camera by default and specify a list of approved apps that will be exempt from the camera restriction and will still be able to use the camera in their apps.

Requirements

  • Jamf Pro 11.24 or later

  • iOS/iPadOS 26 or later with supervised iPhone/iPad

Configuring Camera Access Settings

  1. In Jamf Pro, go to Devices > Configuration Profiles.

  2. Either click + New to create a new configuration profile or select an existing configuration profile with camera restricted to edit.

  3. On the General payload under Display Name, give it an appropriate name.

  4. Go to Restrictions > Functionality in the sidebar and click Restrict for the Use of camera setting.

  5. In the Bundle IDs of apps to exclude from camera restriction section, enter the names of the apps you want to allow to use the camera. Click the Add button on the right to add multiple apps.

    • iOS/iPadOS built-in apps and App Store apps: After entering the app name, select the appropriate option from the dropdown menu—the Bundle ID will be filled in automatically.

    • Custom apps and In-house apps: After entering the app name, select the last option in the dropdown menu, then manually enter the app’s Bundle ID in the Bundle ID field on the right.

  6. Click Scope and ensure the desired groups are in scope. For new profiles, consider adding a test device first.

  7. Click Save to deploy it to the target mobile devices.
