Description
Organizations may need to lock devices into a specific web application to ensure users access only designated content. While deploying Web Clips in Jamf Pro provides quick access to web pages, combining them with Single App Mode can be challenging.
Configuring Single App Mode within the same profile as the Web Clip may not function as intended, leading to deployment issues. By separating Web Clip and Single App Mode into distinct configuration profiles, devices can correctly interpret and apply each setting, ensuring the desired web application is accessible in a controlled environment.
Create the Web Clip Configuration Profile
Log in to Jamf Pro.
Navigate to Devices > Configuration Profiles > New.
In the General payload, provide a name (e.g., “Web Clip - Company Portal”).
Select the Web Clip payload and click Configure.
Add the items below to the Web Clip payload:
Set the Label to the desired name displayed on the Home Screen.
Enter the URL of the web application.
Configure additional settings as needed (e.g., icon, full-screen display).
Click Scope and add desired test devices.
Click Save.
Create the Single App Mode Configuration Profile
In Jamf Pro, navigate to Devices > Configuration Profiles > New.
In the General payload, provide a name (e.g., “Single App Mode - Company Portal”).
Select the Single App Mode payload and click Configure.
Add the Bundle Identifier of the Web Clip.
Note*** The standard Web Clip identifier is com.apple.webapp. For more information about determining the Bundle ID of a specific Web Clip, refer to this article: Determining the Bundle ID of a particular webclip.Click Scope and add desired test devices (ensure the devices are the same as the Web Clip profile in step 1).
Click Save.
Deploy the profiles to managed devices
After testing, edit the scope on both profiles to include desired managed devices - first with the Web Clip profile then with the Singe App Mode profile.
You can always create a smart group targeting devices with the Web Clip profile installed and use that for the scope of the Single App Mode profile to ensure the profiles install in the correct order.
