Stuck in Lost Mode Without a Network Connection

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Issue Description

The device does not have a network connection to receive the Disable Lost Mode command.

Troubleshooting Steps

Option 1: Share Internet from a computer

  1. Connect the device to a macOS device.

  2. On this Mac navigate to System Preferences > Sharing.

  3. Highlight the Internet Sharing option and configure the following without enabling it since you cannot edit once it is enabled.

    1. This photo shows where you will highlight the Internet Sharing option and configure prior to enabling.
  4. Enable Internet Sharing.

  5. Confirm that the Disable Lost Mode Command is pending under the device's inventory record under History > Pending Commands.

  6. Wait until the Disable Lost Mode command shows under the Complete Commands tab.

Option 2: Revive device with Apple Configurator

  1. Connect device in Lost Mode to a macOS computer with Apple Configurator 2 installed.

  2. Open Apple Configurator 2.

  3. Click the Actions dropdown in the Menu Bar.

  4. Hover over the Advanced tab and select Revive device.

  5. After the process runs, we should be able to send a remote command to the iPad to disable Lost Mode.

More Resources

If neither of these options are successful, the device will need to be restored either using Apple Configurator (Actions > Restore) or in recovery mode.
