Description
When using the Latest based on device eligibility Minimum Required OS setting in the PreStage Enrollment, computers going through Automated Device Enrollment in the Setup Assistant are being presented an incompatible OS update meant for MacBook Neos (macOS 26.3.2). This causes computers to get stuck at the Software Update pane in the Setup Assistant.
Preventing Future Enrollment Issues
To avoid this happening in subsequent enrollments, update the Computer PreStage Enrollment setting for Minimum Required macOS Version to Specific Version of 26.3.1.
In Jamf Pro, go to Computers > PreStage Enrollments and select your PreStage Enrollment(s) that have Minimum Required macOS Version configured.
Click Edit in the lower-right corner.
Click the dropdown for Minimum required macOS version and select Specific Version.
Click the dropdown for the version to enforce and select 26.3.1.
Click Save.
Once macOS 26.4 is released, you can switch back to Latest version based on computer eligibility.
Computers Stuck in Setup Assistant
We can use the steps below for computers stuck in the Setup Assistant at the Software Update pane.
Note - This process will likely require erasing the computer if already on macOS 26.
Ensure that the steps above have been taken to change the Minimum Required OS enforcement setting. You must wait at least 60 seconds after re-saving your PreStage Enrollment before continuing to the next step.
On the impacted computers:
Hit the back arrow in the Setup Assistant to go back to the Wi-Fi screen.
Click Continue to get to the Remote Management screen.
Continue with enrollment. MDM enrollment should be able to complete now without requiring the Software Update.
If a Managed Administrator account is configured to be created via MDM in your PreStage Enrollment, users may see a grey screen with the time and empty username/password fields.
This indicates the Managed Local Administrator account was created before the enrollment process got stuck. Continue with Step 3 below.
If after completing enrollment the user is again prompted to install an incompatible macOS 26.3.2 version or if the user is stuck at the grey screen with a blank username and password fields, it will be necessary to erase the computer.
Use the Wipe Computer remote command from Jamf Pro to perform an Erase All Content and Settings wipe.
You will be required to join a Wi-fi network while in Recovery to activate the Mac. Then the computer will restart and enroll without issues.
