Description
Single Application Mode is a special Parallels Desktop deployment option that allows you to completely hide Parallels Desktop and Windows on a Mac and make a Windows application appear like it's a native macOS app. This mode is designed for system administrators who want Mac users in their organization to run one or more Windows applications without being aware of Parallels Desktop or Windows running in a virtual machine.
This article provides steps to package, upload, and deploy the Parallels Single Application Mode desktop feature.
Deploying Parallels Single Application Mode Feature
Verify that all prerequisites are met by reviewing Parallels’ documentation under Prerequisites.
Follow Parallels’ instructions for Preparing the Autodeploy Packages.
Review the documentation regarding Single App Mode provided by Parallels.
Add the package to a Jamf Pro distribution point. Parallels provides steps for this under the “Add a distribution point” section of the Deploying with Jamf Pro Documentation.
When uploading the package to the JCDS, note that the instructions in the “Add the autodeploy package to the distribution point” section refer to Jamf Admin, which is outdated.
Since the package is typically large (often around 16GB), uploads through the Jamf Pro UI — even when zipped — can sometimes fail. Uploading the unzipped file via the Jamf Sync application has shown to be the most reliable method.
After uploading the package successfully, follow the steps under “Create a Policy” in the Deploying with Jamf Pro Documentation to setup the deployment of the application accordingly.
