This article provides steps for being able to deploy volume purchased apps from Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager to devices managed by Jamf Pro.
Deploying Volume Purchased Apps on ABM or ASM
Prior to being able to deploy app licenses from Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager to devices managed by Jamf Pro, the steps below need to be completed:
Create an Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager account.
Create a "Location" in Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager.
Integrate the Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager Location token with Jamf Pro following the Adding A Volume Purchasing Location to Jamf Pro section in the Volume Purchasing Integration documentation.
Deploying Apps from Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager:
Obtain content licenses from Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager.
Deploy the licenses using Jamf Pro.
Open the app record in Jamf Pro by going to Computer > Mac Apps > App Store or Devices > Mobile Device Apps.
If the app record does not show, you can try the steps below:
Ensure you received an email from Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager confirming your purchase.
If you have multiple locations in Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager, ensure the licenses are assigned to a location/token that is integrated with Jamf Pro.
Wait 5-10 more minutes to ensure the licenses have synced over from Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager.
Log out and back into Jamf Pro.
Create the record manually following the steps under Distributing an App Store App or Purchased in Volume from the Apps Purchased in Volume documentation.
Click Edit in the bottom right if needed.
On the General tab of the app record, ensure the app is configured as desired.
Important note: be sure to choose the desired Distribution Method. It will default to Install with Self Service, which will cause the app to not install automatically on the target devices.
Click the Managed distribution tab and ensure the box is checked for Assign Content Purchased in volume.
If this option does not appear:
ensure you have app licenses purchased in Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager.
If you have multiple locations in Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager, ensure the licenses are assigned to a location/token that is integrated with Jamf Pro.
If you assign the app record to a specific Site in Jamf Pro, ensure the location/token from Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager that has the licenses is assigned to the Site in Jamf Pro.
If deploying via Self Service, click the Self Service tab to configure the Self Service options as desired.
For mobile devices only, if using a managed app configuration click App Configuration and configure as desired. For more information see the Managed App Configuration section in the Managed Content in Jamf Pro article.
Click Scope and add target devices to scope.
Click Save.
