What impact does an expired activation code have on Jamf Pro functionality?

Updated this week

Description

This article discusses the Jamf Pro Activation Code and consequences of expiration.

Historical Use of Activation Code

Historically, the activation code for a Jamf Pro server authenticated the organization that the server is licensed to and validated that there was a current license/subscription available.

When the activation code expired, the primary consequence was that other subscribed services (as defined under Cloud Services Connection) potentially no longer fully functioned, most notably JCDS. However, with the deployment of JCDS 2.0, JCDS is no longer impacted by the activation code.

Current Activation Code Behavior

Currently, updating the activation code in Jamf Pro is cosmetic only. As long as your organization has a valid subscription there should be no impact to Cloud Service Connection functions if the activation code in Jamf Pro is expired.

Updating the activation code is necessary to see the most up to date license count. See Update the Activation Code in Jamf Pro for steps to update the Activation Code in Jamf Pro.
