Issue Description
Jamf School displays an error for the Volume Purchasing Token, "The...service token is used by another MDM". There is an option to reclaim the token but after some time, Jamf School redisplays the error.
The Volume Purchasing Token can only be used in one MDM at a time. This error displays when another MDM source is claiming ownership of the token. Most commonly, this is caused by a mac with Apple Configurator 2 installed signed into an Apple Account associated with the Apple School Manager instance for the Volume Purchasing Token.
Troubleshooting Steps
To remove the message from Jamf School, we first need to locate if we are signed into Apple Configurator 2 or if the token is uploaded into another MDM.
If an Apple ID is signed into Apple Configurator 2
Open Apple Configurator 2 and select Account in the apple Menubar.
Then select sign out.
You do not need an Apple Account signed into Apple Configurator to add devices to Apple School Manager so signing out won't cause any issues with the Apple Configurator 2 workflows.
If the MDM token is uploaded to another MDM, like Jamf Pro
Remove the Volume Purchasing token from the other MDM.
If a Volume Purchasing token is needed within the other MDM, you can create a secondary location in Apple School Manager to avoid conflicts between the two MDMs: Apple School Manager Guide.
If you are unsure what may be claiming ownership of the token
Please reach out to Jamf Support and provide the Volume Purchasing token from Apple School Manager which can be acquired following the steps below.
Log in to your Apple School Manager Account.
Click on your Username (in the bottom left corner), select Preferences, and click Payments and Billing.
On the right, scroll to the bottom and click the token you’d like to download.
