App Installers for Computers

You can deploy apps directly to the computers in your environment using App Installers.

  1. In Elevate, click Apps in the sidebar.

  2. Click Add App in the upper-right corner of the page.

  3. Use the Search function at the top of the page or scroll to find an app to distribute.

  4. Click Add for the desired title.

  5. Select a Target group from the dropdown list of smart groups.

    1. For information on creating groups, see Creating a Device Group.

  6. Select a Distribution method.

    1. You can choose to either install the app automatically on target computers or add the app to Self Service+ to allow your end users to install the app at their convenience.

  7. Select an Update method. Automatic updates will install the latest version of the app when available. Manual updates allow you to decide when to install a newer version.

  8. Click Deploy.

The app is distributed to computers in scope via the chosen distribution method.

If your organization needs to a different end user experience with App Installers, additional settings are available when deploying from Jamf Pro.

Distributing Apps with Blueprints

After you've added your Volume Purchasing token to Elevate, you can distribute iOS, iPadOS and macOS app licenses from Apple Business Manager to smart groups and static groups using blueprints in Elevate.

  1. In Elevate, click Blueprints in the sidebar.

  2. Click Create blueprint in the top-right corner.

  3. Update the name and the description of the blueprint by replacing the Untitled blueprint and Describe what this blueprint is used for. text.

  4. Enter the name of an app you have licenses for in the Search field.

  5. Drag and drop any of the available apps in the Components library on the left to the Declaration group section on the right.

  6. If you want to adjust the app settings:

    1. Click on the app component to configure additional settings (e.g., update method).

    2. Click Update.

  7. Click the Scope card to configure the scope.

  8. Select the checkbox next to the groups you want to scope the app to.

    • You can filter device groups based on group type using the Smart and Static tabs or by group name by entering a group name in the Search field.

    • If devices are added to a group after an app has been deployed, the new devices will automatically receive the app the next time they check in.

  9. Click Save.

  10. Click Deploy to deploy the app to the configured device groups.
