Description
The Jamf School Student app is the end-user app for Jamf School. It is used for on-demand installation of apps, documents, and profiles. When users are assigned to devices and a member of a class in Jamf School, Jamf School Student can also be used with Jamf Teacher for managing classes.
This article discusses login workflows for Jamf School Student and common issues.
Login Types
Jamf School Student provides two login options: manual and automatic. Logins should happen automatically if:
The user is assigned to the device in Jamf School.
The app is deployed to the device using Jamf School.
Manual Login Steps
The steps below outline how to log in manually to Jamf School Student.
Open the Jamf School Student app.
It will prompt for a URL. This will be your school's custom URL without https://.
Enter in the credentials for the user found in Jamf School under Users > Users (not Administrators credentials).

Using Jamf School Student with Shared iPads
Shared iPads do not have an assigned user, which means they can't make use of all the features of Jamf School Student as there is no user to log in to Jamf School Student.
One option for using Jamf School Student with Shared iPads is to enable the Device Session option to Allow the app to be used on devices without a permanent owner under Organization > Settings > Jamf School Student.
As is noted in the screenshot above, with this option, functionality is limited to installing and removing apps, documents, and profiles, and limited device actions.
Common Issues
Student can't log in to Jamf Student
If a user is logged out of Jamf Student and is unable to log back in, we can temporarily un-assign the student from the device and then reassign them.
To resolve the issue and get the user logged in again:
In Jamf School go to Devices > Inventory > select the device.
Click Edit Details.
Remove the user from ownership by un-assigning them.
Click Save.
Wait a few minutes for the device to check in and apply the changes.
Reassign the device to the user.
This process resets the user assignment and allows the user to log back in to Jamf Student.
Students are prompted for manual login but we want it to be automatic
Confirm that the app was installed using Jamf School and that there is a user assigned to the device.
