Erase macOS Command Requesting Find My Mac PIN Code

When issuing an erase command to a macOS device, we may see a request for an unknown Find My Mac PIN code.

When an erase command is sent to a macOS device, the system requests a PIN code that will be required to unlock the device after it has been erased and reboots. This PIN code is not predefined or retrieved from any external source.

Sending the Erase Device Command in Jamf School

  1. You can enter any desired 6-digit code and click Erase.

  2. Make sure to note the entered PIN code, as it will be required to unlock the device upon reboot after the erase process completes.

    • The PIN will also be visible the device's activity log.
