Description
This article provides steps for being able to deploy volume purchased apps from Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager to devices managed by Jamf Now.
Prerequisites for App Deployment
Prior to being able to deploy app licenses from Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager to devices managed by Jamf Now, the steps below need to be completed:
Create an Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager account.
Create a "Location" in Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager.
Integrate the Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager Location token with Jamf Now following Setting Up Volume Purchasing in the Jamf Now Documentation.
Important Note: Location does not refer to your business address, but is an Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager term. While you can have multiple locations in Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager, Jamf Now only supports one location.
Deploying Apps from Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager
Obtain content licenses from Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager.
Ensure the licenses have synced over to Jamf Now.
Look in Jamf Now under Apps to see if the app is present and licenses show.
If the app(s) are not showing:
Ensure you received an email from Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager confirming your purchase.
If you have multiple locations in Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager, ensure the licenses are assigned to a location/token that is integrated with Jamf Now.
Click ... and select Sync Volume Purchased apps.
Log out of Jamf Now and log back in.
Deploy the apps to devices either individually or to all devices on the blueprint.
When devices communicate next with Jamf Now, they will receive a command to reach out to the App Store to install the version of the app the device is compatible with. It may take some time for all the commands to queue and complete if installing multiple apps at once.
If you have App Usage configured on a blueprint, ensure any apps you are adding meet the desired rule you have put in place.
Only Allow Some Apps: Ensure app is added to the list.
Hide Some Apps: Ensure app is not on the list.
