Prepare Jamf Now Managed Devices for a New User

This article details the steps to take when your organization needs to prepare a device to pass to a new user.

Preparing Your Devices for New Users

  1. Sign out of the Apple Account/iCloud account on the device

  2. Send the Erase Device command from Jamf Now

    1. In Jamf Now, click Devices.

    2. Select the device you want to erase and confirm it has checked in on the Last Checked In card.

    3. Click on the Action pop-up menu (•••) in the top-right corner and select Erase device.

    4. Click Erase.

      1. Depending on the hardware, Macs may need to have macOS reinstalled in recovery mode or your Mac will restore to the factory settings. To verify your hardware requirements, see Remote wipe on macOS with MDM from Apple Platform Deployment.

      2. For more information about reinstalling macOS, see How to reinstall macOS from the Apple Support website.

  3. Update the device assignment in Jamf Now, following the steps in Device Assignments Setup.

  4. Re-enroll the device.

    • Auto-Enrollment: Go through the Setup Assistant on the device and connect to a network when prompted.

    • Open Enrollment: Setup the device and then follow the steps below to re-enroll.
