Updated over 2 months ago

Description

This article details the steps to take when your organization no longer wants to manage a device in Jamf Now and needs to remove organizational data from the device before ownership passes to another organization or individual.

Removing Organizational Data From Your Devices

  1. Release the device from Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager if applicable.

  2. Sign out of the Apple Account/iCloud Account on the device.

  3. Send the Erase Device command from Jamf Now.

    1. In Jamf Now, click Devices.

    2. Select the device you want to erase and confirm it has checked in on the Last Checked In card.

    3. Click on the Action pop-up menu (•••) in the top-right corner and select Erase device.

    4. Click Erase.

      • Depending on the hardware, Macs may need to have macOS reinstalled in recovery mode or your Mac will restore to the factory settings. To verify your hardware requirements, see Remote wipe on macOS with MDM from Apple Platform Deployment.

      • For more information about reinstalling macOS, see How to reinstall macOS from the Apple Support website.

  4. (Optional) Delete the device record from Jamf Now to maintain a clean inventory and prevent repetition issues in future management.

    1. For unenrolled/erased devices, go to Devices and select the record you want to remove.

    2. Click Remove from My Devices in the upper-right corner of the device record.

      • This option will not show for enrolled devices.
