Unenroll and Remove Devices from Jamf School

Updated over 2 months ago

Description

To completely remove a device from Jamf School, you must unenroll it first. Unenrolling a device removes the MDM profile and all installed profiles. Managed apps are also removed when "Remove this app when the management profile is removed" is enabled.

After the device is unmanaged, you can remove it completely from Jamf School. No management tasks can be performed until the device is enrolled again.

Unenrolling and Removing Devices from Jamf School

    • In case where the device cannot use MDM commands to unenroll, check if the MDM profile can be removed manually on the device itself. If devices are restricted, a manual wipe or device restore will be needed if the MDM profile needs to be removed.

      • For iOS devices: In the device Settings > General > VPN & Device Management > Click on the MDM profile > Remove Management

      • For macOS devices on 12.x or earlier: In the device System Preferences > Profiles > Click on the MDM profile > Click the minus button at the bottom left corner

      • For macOS devices on 13.x or later: In the device System Settings > Privacy & Security > Profiles > Click on the MDM profile > Click the minus button at the bottom left corner.

  1. Devices enrolled via Automated Device Enrollment: either remove the enrollment profile tied to this device by navigating to Devices > Automated Device Enrollment > select the checkbox for the device > Unassign Profile or unassign the device from the Jamf School MDM Server in Apple School Manager.

  2. If the device was assigned a recurring license for Jamf School, move the device to the Trash to free up the License for future assignment.

    • Depending on the UI in use either:

      • Go to Devices > Inventory, select the Checkbox for the device, and click Move to Trash.

      • Go to Devices > Devices, select the Checkbox for the device, select Advanced, and click Move to Trash

Note: Devices assigned Lifetime Licenses cannot have the license removed unless certain conditions are met see Replacing Licenses on Broken or Damaged Devices.
