Blocking Safari in macOS 13+ with Jamf School

Updated over a month ago

Description

Apple has moved where Safari.app is located on the OS (it used to be in /Applications). This article provides the steps to block Safari in macOS 13+.

Please note, this does not prevent Safari from being opened by external applications. To fully lock down Safari, consider adding the Content Filter payload safelisting any applicable login screens such as: accounts.google.com.

Blocking Safari with BlockList Profile

  1. Create a profile for macOS following the steps below (or open your existing Safelist and Blocklist profile):

    1. In Jamf School, go to Profiles > Overview.

    2. Click + Create Profile in the upper-right corner.

    3. Select macOS and Device Enrollment, then click Next.

    4. Give the profile a name and click Next.

    5. Click Finish.

  2. Select the Safelist and Blocklist payload (and click Configure if it is a new profile).

  3. Add the following path to the Paths to disallowed applications section of the payload: /System/Volumes/Preboot/Cryptexes/App/System/Applications/Safari.app

  4. Click Save.

  5. Click Scope, adjust as needed, click Save.
