Updating time zone on devices with Jamf School

Updated over 2 months ago

Description

If Location Services is not enabled on a device, it might be showing the wrong time. Devices without Location Services will be set to the default time zone Cupertino (Pacific time).

Updating Time Zone on Managed iOS and iPadOS Devices

Devices on iOS/iPadOS 14 or later

Jamf School can be utilized to directly update the time zone on the device either individually or en masse following the steps below. Please make sure that "Force Automatic Date and Time" is not enabled in a Restrictions profile installed on devices as this can interfere with the command to set the desired Time Zone.

  • Single device: In Jamf School, go to Devices > Devices and select the device. On the device details page you will see an option for Time Zone, update this to whichever is desired and click Save.

  • En masse: In Jamf School, navigate to Devices > Devices. Check the box next to the devices that need the change and click More. Select Change Time Zone, choose the desired time zone, and click Apply.

Devices on iOS/iPadOS 13 or lower

Unfortunately Jamf School cannot be used to update the device time if Location Services is not enabled. To have the device show the correct time, either the time zone must either be updated directly on the device or Location Services must be enabled directly on the device.

  • To update the time zone on the device: go to Settings > General > Date & Time. Click on Time Zone and select the desired time zone.

  • To enable Location Services on the device: go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services and toggle to enable.
