Updating Jamf Connect License File in Jamf School Deployments

This article provides steps for deploying a new license file for Jamf Connect with Jamf School.

Updated over a month ago

Description

Jamf Connect requires a license file in order to work successfully. Jamf Connect licenses are valid for a year and must be updated in order for authentication with the Identity Provider to succeed.

The license file only needs to be added to the menu bar configuration profile (or macOS account management if using Self Service+).

If you currently have it added to both login and menu bar configuration profiles, you can either remove it from the login and redeploy without the license or add in the new license each year to both profiles.

This article outlines the workflow for updating the Jamf Connect license file for Jamf School.

Prerequisites

You will need:

  1. A Jamf ID user or IdP user with access to the Solutions page for your Organization in Jamf Account in order to access to your new license file.

  2. The Jamf Connect Configuration application.

Expand for steps for downloading the Jamf Connect Configuration app.

  1. Log in to Jamf Account using a Jamf ID associated with a Jamf Connect Subscription.

  2. Go to Solutions > Jamf Connect > View Details.

  3. On the Download tab, select the desired Jamf Connect version and click Download.

  4. Mount the downloaded DMG and move the Jamf Connect Configuration.app to the Applications folder.

    3. If you previously had the license file in your Jamf Connect login profile, either:

      • Repeat step a to add it back in or

      • Click </> to switch to the plist view, delete the license information (see screenshot below) and click Save in the bottom right corner.

    4. Save the login profile:

      1. Click File in the upper-left menu bar and click Save.

      2. Select Jamf Connect Login as the application and Configuration Profile .mobileconfig as the file format.

      3. Add your organization name in the required field and click Save.

  5. Upload the updated profile(s) to Jamf School:

    1. In Jamf School, navigate to Profiles > Overview > Create new profile > Upload custom profile.

    2. Upload the newly created profiles with the updated license file.

    3. Navigate to Devices > Inventory.

    4. Select a test device.

    5. Go to Managed Profiles > Add new profile(s) and scope the new profiles to the test device.

  6. Monitor Results:

    • Confirm the profile has been successfully applied on the test device.

    • Once verified, scope the new profiles to the desired device group and then unscope the old Jamf Connect profiles.

We want to use this method to avoid creating an orphaned profile. For more information see Jamf School & Custom Configuration Profiles.
