Issue Description
When a device doesn't check in to Jamf School for a period of time, the device will be marked as inactive. This is just a label; once a device checks in the inactive status will be removed.
The time it takes till devices are marked as inactive is configurable in Jamf School under: Organization > Settings > General > Device Management. Currently 8 weeks is the longest period that can be selected.
Troubleshooting Steps
If a device is not checking in with Jamf School we can try the steps below:
Ensure the device is on and has a network connection.
Ensure the network configuration is not blocking MDM communication: Firewall, Ports, IP Addresses and URLs Used by Jamf School and Use Apple products on enterprise networks.
For iOS devices: Switch Airplane Mode On and Off.
If the device still does not check in, it is possible the KeyChain has become locked causing the Wi-Fi password not to be transmitted to the Wi-Fi network. To unlock:
Enter the device passcode.
Switch the Airplane Mode On and Off on the device.
Verify network connection on the device.
Open the device record in Jamf School and click Refresh.
