Computers not enrolling into Jamf School using Automated Device Enrollment

Updated over a month ago

Issue Description

The device didn't enroll in Jamf School using Automated Device Enrollment. No Remote Management screen was displayed in the Setup Assistant.

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Check the status of the Automated Device Enrollment token in Jamf School: Organization > Settings > Automated Device Enrollment.

  2. Verify that the device serial number shows in Devices > Automated Device Enrollment.

    • If the device is not listed here, assign it to the Jamf School MDM server in Apple School Manager.

  3. In Jamf School, under Devices > Automated Device Enrollment, ensure the device status shows as either "Profile Assigned" or "Profile Pushed".

    • If it shows as "No Profile Assigned," assign an Automated Device Enrollment profile to that device.

      1. In Jamf School go to Devices > Automated Device Enrollment and select the device.

      2. Click Assign Profile and select the desired profile.

      3. Click Save.

  4. Try to enroll the device again.

    • If the device is setup, you can enroll using a Terminal command, following the instructions below.

      1. Ensure the computer has a network connection.

      2. Open Terminal on the computer.

      3. Run the command: sudo profiles renew -type enrollment

      4. Enter in the user's password.

      5. Follow the prompts in the Notification in the upper-right corner to install the MDM profile.

        • If the Notification doesn't show click the time to bring up any missed notifications.

    • If you want all the settings from the Automated Device Enrollment profile to be set during enrollment, the computer will need to be erased and setup again.

      • Follow Apple's guide for your hardware type and OS version to erase the device.
