Sign into iTunes prompt when deploying apps with Jamf School

Updated over 2 months ago

Issue Description

If an app record in Jamf School was created manually, it will be deployed without licenses from Apple School Manager and end users will see 'Sign into iTunes to allow ... to manage and install apps' when apps are deployed if there is no Apple Account signed in.

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Confirm the app record was created manually, but looking at the app source under Apps > Inventory. It will say Apple App Store.

  2. Follow the steps below to get licenses in Apple School Manager or Apple Business Manager.

    1. Sign into Apple School Manager with a user that has access to Apps and Books.

    2. Click Apps and Books in the left column.

    3. Search for the app you need to get licenses for.

    4. Click on the app.

    5. Choose the volume purchasing location for your token in Jamf School in the dropdown menu.

    6. Write the number of licenses you need to get.

    7. Click Get/Purchase.

  3. In Jamf School sync with Apple School Manager to pull in the license. This can be done under Apps > Inventory by selecting Sync with Apple School Manager. Once the sync completes there should now be an app record in Jamf School under Apps > Inventory with source Volume Purchasing.

*If you do not see a Volume Purchasing record and have purchased the app license from Apple School Manager, check Jamf School > Apps > Trash.

  4. Check the box next to the app with Source Apple App Store and click Move to Trash.

  5. Open the new app record with source Volume Purchasing and add device groups to receive the app using the +button and device group dropdown.

  6. Click the settings gear in the upper-left corner to change the installation type or license assignment type if needed.

  7. Click Save in the lower right corner.
