Fundamentals of Apple School Manager (ASM) Synchronization in Jamf School

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Description

Schools synchronize data such as classes, teachers, and students from a Student Information System (SIS) to Apple School Manager (ASM) to utilize Apple's educational features like Schoolwork or Apple Classroom. By also syncing some of this data to Jamf School, Jamf School can further enhance these features and add additional ones.

Benefits of Syncing Users to Jamf School from ASM

  • A single user source allows for device assignment in Jamf School to track inventory

  • Deployment of VPP Books

  • Ability to use MDM synced classes for Apple Classroom

Where to Begin

Before syncing users and classes to Jamf School, an Automated Device Enrollment (ADE) token must be uploaded to Jamf School; if this has not been completed, please refer to the following documentation: Automated Device Enrollment Integration.

Once your ADE integration is set up, follow these steps to enable ASM synchronization:

  1. In Jamf School, navigate to Organization > Settings.

  2. Under the Apple School Manager subsection, locate the option that displays an Apple Account from your ASM instance and click on it.

  3. The displayed Apple Account will be the one used to download your ADE token.

  4. Check the box for Enable synchronization of managed Apple Accounts with Apple School Manager.
