Classes are not showing in Apple Classroom on a computer managed by Jamf School

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Description

If after configuring settings for Apple Classroom, classes are not showing up in Apple Classroom there may be an issue with the EDU Profile.

This article explains how to get Mobile Device Management synced classes to show in Apple Classroom with the EDU profile installation.

Confirm Apple Classroom Settings

The Automatically Configure Apple Classroom based on Classes and Users in Jamf School setting needs to be enabled in Jamf School under Organization > Settings > Apple Classroom.

The image shows the Apple Classroom setting options in Jamf School Under Organization > Settings. The Automatically configure Apple Classroom based on Classes and Users in Jamf School option should be checked.

Note: If Configure Classroom on macOS for all local users automatically is enabled, disable this setting if on macOS Big Sur or above.

EDU Profile Requirements

  1. The local account logged into the computer, must be the MDM Enabled user.

    • EDU profiles on macOS are user level, therefore they can only be installed on the one MDM Enabled local account. This is usually the user used for enrollment and must be the logged in user in order for the EDU profile to be installed.

  2. That username of the "Current owner" on the device record in Jamf School needs to match the local account username of the MDM enabled user.

Updating the MDM Enabled User on a Computer

If the MDM Enabled user is not the primary user of the computer, unenroll the computer and re-enroll the computer under the local account of the main user.

Updating the Username of a user in Jamf School

To update a user's information in Jamf School:

  1. Go to Users > Users and select the user.

  2. Click Edit details.

  3. Update the username field.

  4. Click Save.

Updating Current Owner

Reassigning the user to the device can help push the EDU profile again. If the Apple Classroom settings, local MDM enabled user, or the username for the current owner were changed, we will want to do the steps below (even if the current owner is correct).

  1. In Jamf School, go to Devices > Inventory on select the impacted device to open its inventory record.

  2. Click Edit details in the upper-right corner (above the map).

  3. Click the x to remove the Current owner and then click Save.

  4. Click Edit details again.

  5. From the dropdown box for Current owner, select the user who matches the local account user.

  6. Click Save.
