Update Jamf Connect license after renewal

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Description

Once a year you will need to renew the Jamf Connect license in order for Jamf Connect to continue working on devices. While there are multiple methods for creating or updating a Jamf Connect license configuration profile, Jamf Support recommends:

  • Having the license key in it its own profile, separate from the other Jamf Connect configurations.

  • Using the 'Copy license content to Clipboard' option in Jamf Account to update an existing profile in Jamf Pro

This article provides steps for updating the Jamf Connect license and deploying it using Jamf Pro.

Note - In this article, Jamf Connect refers to settings configured with the com.jamf.connect preference domain. It applies to Jamf Connect versions 2.x as well as the Self Service+ menu bar and/or Self Service+ Account management dashboard.

Retrieving the new Connect License and adding it to Jamf Pro

  1. In Jamf Account, go to Solutions and click View details for Jamf Connect.

  2. On the Overview tab, click Copy license content to Clipboard.

    • Note - confirm the validity date shown for the license. The new license is not available until the start of your subscription date. However keep in mind that computers with Jamf Connect 2.43 or later have a built in 14 day grace period so there will not be a gap in functionality as long as the new profile is installed in that timeframe.

  3. Paste the license code in a text editor application. For example:

  4. Open up the existing Jamf Connect license configuration profile in Jamf Pro.

    • If using the Application & Custom Settings > Upload option: delete the code that shows between <data> and </data> and copy in the code from the text editor

    • If using the Application & Custom Settings > Jamf Applications option: delete the code that shows in the License File box and paste in the code from the text editor.

  5. Click Save. If prompted, select to distribute the configuration profile to all computers.

Please note - computers should only have 1 profile with license data installed at a time. We want to ensure that the old license data is not in any other profiles on the device to avoid an interruption in Jamf Connect functionality.
