Description
Apple Configurator is a tool that organizations can use to prepare devices. You can supervise devices, add them to Apple School Manager, or use them to enroll devices in bulk directly to Jamf School.
During the preparation process you are prompted to select or generate a supervision identity and the MDM server. This article provides the steps to add these to the Apple Configurator settings on a workstation.
Note - these steps only need to be done once per computer with Apple Configurator 2.
Adding Jamf School Supervision Identity to Apple Configurator
You can add a supervision identity from Jamf School to multiple workstations with Apple Configurator 2 installed. Once added, you can use this supervision identity when preparing devices with Apple Configurator.
In Jamf School navigate to Organization > Settings > Supervision Identity.
Click Download Supervision Identity.
Click on the Show Password button and make note of the value.
Open Apple Configurator and select Apple Configurator > Settings... from the menu bar.
Choose the Organizations tab and click the
button in the lower left corner. Select the option for Import Organization.
Select the Supervision Identity file downloaded from Jamf School in step 2 and enter the password revealed in step 3 when prompted.
If done successfully you should see an organization with a name similar to: zuludesk: Your Jamf School Instance Name.
Important: If you change a supervision identity, you must start over—that is, you must erase, prepare, and supervise the devices again.
Adding Jamf School to Apple Configurator as an MDM Server
You can create references to device management services, which your iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV devices contact for enrollment in a device management service.
Open Apple Configurator and select Apple Configurator > Settings... in the menu bar.
Choose the Servers tab and click the + button in the lower-right corner.
Click Next on the “Define an MDM Server” window that pops-up.
Then on the Define an MDM Server screen:
If successful you should see a new server listed in the Apple Configuration settings window. This option will now appear when preparing devices with Apple Configurator.
