Getting "Unable to load identity provider" when trying to login at the Jamf Connect login window

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Issue Description

Getting "Unable to load identity provider" when logging into a device with Jamf Connect Login.

Two common causes of this error message are:

  1. There is no network connection at the login window.

  2. There is no Jamf Connect login configuration profile installed on the computer or a misconfiguration within the Jamf Connect Login configuration profile.

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Confirm there is a network connection at the login window.

    1. Please note that 802.1x authentication types requiring a username and password are not supported at the macOS login window with Jamf Connect as the credentials needed are not available until a user has logged into their device.

  2. Check if there is a .plist in the system /Library/Preferences; it will be used first instead of the configuration profile.

  3. Check if the device has a Jamf Connect login (com.jamf.connect.login) configuration profile installed.

    1. If no, add the computer to scope of your profile and restart the computer to try and install the profile.

    2. If yes, verify all the preference domains, keys and values are correct.

      1. Start with just the minimal configuration for the plist: Authentication Settings
