Use the Dock payload in iMazing to statically add apps to the Dock with Jamf Now

Updated over a month ago

Description

The Dock profile can be used to statically force certain apps to appear in the macOS dock on Jamf Now managed Macs. This article covers how to use iMazing to build a Dock custom profile as well as how to deploy the custom profile using Jamf Now.

Requirements

Creating the Dock profile in iMazing

  1. In iMazing, locate the Dock under the Available System Domains list and click + Add Configuration Payload.

  2. Click + under Static Apps to add the first static app to the dock.

  3. Configure the App with the following information:

    1. Type = File

    2. Label = Name of app (ex. Microsoft Word)

    3. Display Name = Name of app (ex. Microsoft Word)

    4. Type = File

    5. Path = the file path to the app (ex. /Applications/Microsoft Word.app)

    6. Path Type = 0

  4. Repeat this process for any other app you want to appear in the Dock.

  5. Under the General section, configure the Name field to name the profile.

  6. Click File > Save As to save the profile to your computer.

Uploading and deploying the Dock profile with Jamf Now

  1. Upload the Dock profile created using iMazing into Jamf Now for the desired Blueprints.

  2. Confirm that the app icon(s) displays successfully in the Dock as well as ensure the app(s) opens successfully when clicked.

    1. If the app icon shows as a question mark in the dock, confirm the following:

      1. Confirm that the app is installed on the Mac.

      2. Confirm the path specified in step 3.e matches where the app is installed on the Mac.
