How do I update a certificate on devices using Jamf School?

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Description

In general, when updating a certificate (such as an iBoss certificate) in Jamf School that is not tied to anything else, we recommend deploying the new certificate first in a profile and then removing the old certificate after the new certificate has installed.

We want to use extreme caution when making changes that impact network connection in your environment. Be sure to test on a smaller test device group first and reach out to Jamf Support if you have any concerns.

Installing a New Certificate

  1. Navigate to Profiles > Overview in Jamf School.

  2. Click + Create Profile to create a new profile.

  3. Give the profile a name. Then select the Certificates payload and click Configure.

  4. In the Certificates Payload, upload the new certificate file.

  5. Scope the profile to the desired device group.

  6. Click Save to apply the profile.

Removing an Existing Certificate

If the previous certificate was manually installed, it must be manually removed. If it was deployed with Jamf School, after the new certificate has installed we can use the steps below:

  1. Locate the profile that contains the outdated certificate.

  2. Click the trash can in the upper-right corner of the device groups to remove the device groups from the profile and click Save.

  3. The certificate will be removed when the profile is removed from the devices.
