A. What is supervision and how is it used in Jamf Now?
Supervision provides additional control over the configuration and restrictions of a computer or mobile device that is owned by your organization. Supervision is required for certain blueprint restrictions and commands. The features in Jamf Now require supervision are listed on:
B. How can we supervise devices?
Devices enrolled in Jamf Now using Auto-Enrollment will automatically be supervised, otherwise:
for iPhones and iPads: supervision can be enabled manually using Apple Configurator for Mac or Apple Configurator for iPhone and then open enrolled into Jamf Now.
for Apple TVs: supervision can be enabled manually using Apple Configurator for Mac.
for Macs: any computer with macOS 11 or later is considered supervised when it is enrolled with Jamf Now using open enrollment.
C. How do I know if a device is supervised?
From Jamf Now:
The Devices tab: Supervised devices will have the icon shown below.
Individual device dashboards: The Details tab on the device's individual dashboard shows Supervised Yes/ No.
On the device itself:
iPads and iPhones will also show the supervision status on the device itself in the Settings app under General > About.
