How to Deploy the Full Jamf Protect Product using Jamf Now

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Description

Jamf Now includes the built in Enable Malware Prevention which is limited to only deploying the Jamf Protect agent to Jamf Now managed Macs. To gain access to the full Jamf Protect capabilities (including the macOS Security portal), the full Jamf Protect product can also be purchased and deployed using Jamf Now.

This article details the process of deploying the full Jamf Protect product using Jamf Now.

Deploying Jamf Protect with Jamf Now

Prerequisites

  1. Ensure that Enable Malware Prevention with Jamf Protect is disabled under Blueprints > Security.

  2. Allow for devices to check in with Jamf Now to receive the command to both uninstall Jamf Protect and remove the existing Jamf Protect profile. Jamf Now will display the Not Configured status under Dashboard > Jamf Protect tile for each device once Jamf Protect app and profile are successfully removed from the machine.

Jamf Protect Configuration and Deployment

  1. Log into the Jamf Protect portal.

  2. On the Plans page, locate the Default plan and click the download icon next to your plan to download its configuration profile in .mobileconfig format.

  3. Click Administrative > Downloads and download the latest Jamf Protect PKG.

  4. Upload your plan configuration profile into Jamf Now under Blueprints > Custom Profiles.

  5. Upload the Jamf Protect PKG into Jamf Now under Apps > Add an App > Upload Your App. Name the package and click Done.

  6. Add the Jamf Protect PKG to the blueprint under Blueprints > Apps.

Confirming Jamf Protect Installation

  1. The Custom Profiles tile will show the profile as Applied.

This photo shows you how the Custom Profile will tell you that the profile has been applied.

  2. The package shows as Completed under Dashboard > Mac Apps for each Mac in the blueprint. Please be aware that this status only verifies the receipt of the PKG installation command by the Mac. It does not confirm the successful installation of the PKG or the presence of the Jamf Protect agent on the machine.

This photo shows what your PKG should look like if it is Completed.

  3. The Jamf Protect tile shows as Not configured, Installed externally under the Dashboard tab of the device.

This photo shows that your Jamf Protect tile should display Not configured Installed externally.

  4. Confirm that you are able to see the Mac appear under the Computers tab in Jamf Protect.

This photo shows where you are able to find your Mac appear under your Computers tab.
