Allow users to download apps to Jamf Now managed devices

Updated over 2 months ago

Description

This article provides information on setting up Jamf Now and managed devices so end users are able to independently download apps from the App Store.

Jamf Now Settings to Allow App Store Downloads

In order for end users to be able to download apps from the App Store, ensure the following:

  • Devices have a personal Apple Account signed in (Managed Apple Acconuts cannot be used to obtain apps, although they are able to browse the app store).

    • Note - It is not possible to sign a user into an Apple Account using Jamf Now, it must be done manually on the device.

  • The blueprint in Jamf Now does not have any of the following enabled:

    • Restrictions > Apps > Disable Installing Apps

    • Restrictions > Apps > Disable Installing Apps (on device)

    • Restrictions > App Usage

      • If using Hide Some Apps, ensure the App Store isn't hidden

      • If using Only Allow Some Apps, ensure the App Store is listed

      • Note the Apps being downloaded by end users would also need to be added accordingly

If you need to adjust your blueprint to change the settings above, the device will need to check into Jamf Now once the blueprint changes are saved in order to receive the new blueprint settings.
