Description
Apple requires the push certificate used to communicate with the Apple Push Notification Service (APNS) to be renewed every 365 days. If the certificate expires or is removed from Jamf School, enrolled devices will not be able to communicate with Jamf School.
Part 1: Download the Certificate Signing Request
In Jamf School navigate to Organization > Settings > Apple Push Notification Service.
Take a screenshot of this page or write down the Push Topic and Apple ID listed.
Click Renew Push Certificate.
In the modal that opens, click Download Certificate Signing Request.
Part 2: Renew the certificate in the Push Portal
In another browser window or tab, go to the Apple Push Certificates Portal.
Login with the Apple ID that was originally used to create the push certificate.
If you are unsure which Apple ID was used, first try the Apple ID listed in Jamf School under Organization > Settings > Apple Push Notification Service.
Once logged into the portal, there should be at least 1 certificate listed.
If there are no certificates listed, log out of the portal and try logging in again with a different Apple ID to find the certificate. If you can not find the certificate or do not have a different Apple ID, reach out to Jamf School support for next steps.
Click the i button for the certificate and compare the Push Topic from Jamf School to the Subject DN UID of the certificate.
After verifying the certificate is correct, click Renew.
Click Choose File, select the Certificate Signing Request file downloaded in Part 1, and click Upload.
7. This next page confirms that the certificate was renewed successfully and includes the new expiration date. Click on the blue Download button to get the new certificate.
Part 3: Upload the renewed certificate to Jamf School
Back in Jamf School, click Drop the token file on this box or click here to select the file and browse to the certificate that was just downloaded.
Click Apply.
We should now see the updated expiration date of the token.
Part 4 (Optional): Update the Apple ID for the Push Certificate Listed in Jamf School
If the incorrect Apple ID was entered in previously, this can be updated in Jamf School after the correct Apple ID is identified.
In Jamf School go to Organization > Settings > Apple Push Notification Service and click Edit Apple ID.
Enter in the correct Apple ID used in the Push Portal and click Apply.
